The Wards 10 Best list evaluates powertrains based on factors like horsepower and torque, efficiency, smoothness, and new tech. The i-FORCE MAX excels in all these areas. It pairs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with a 48-horsepower electric motor. Also part of the picture: a 10-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor makes the V6 more efficient and effective, kicking in with small boosts in torque and acceleration power as needed to help the Toyota Tundra perform at a high level.

This powertrain can generate a hearty 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque, tow a max of 11,450 pounds, and haul a payload of up to 1,665 pounds. The i-FORCE MAX also enables solid fuel economy, especially for a large truck: up to an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined.[1]
