Mardi Gras in Alexandria

What started out as a small celebration featuring just ten floats in the mid-1990s has now grown into a massive Mardi Gras celebration that attracts people from all over. With yearly attendance of about 120,000, Mardi Gras in Alexandria is the perfect way to experience this unique celebration outside of New Orleans.

AlexWinterFete

Another winder attraction in the city is AlexWinterFete, a huge winter-themed festival in the heart of downtown Alexandria. The gathering spans four days and encompasses fun winter activities for adults and families alike such as ice skating, fireworks, live music, excellent creole food, a parade, and much more. Best of all, the festival is completely free.

Alexandria Zoological Park

Since its accreditation in 1986, the Alexandria Zoological park has been the area's No. 1 year-round family attraction, and for good reason. Home to more than 500 animals from more than 160 species from all over the world, the Alexandria Zoological Park is the perfect opportunity to experience the globe's diversity right in central Louisiana. The zoo is also host to many awesome special events throughout the year.

Downtown Alexandria

Downtown Alexandria is packed with great restaurants, shopping, and cultural attractions that make it easy to spend a weekend discovering new things while you're in the city. When you're here, be sure to check out the incredible Alexandria Museum of Art, the Louisiana History Museum, the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center, and the Arno Bontemps African American Museum.
